What is the difference between the BSD600 Ascent M2 and A2?2021-10-15T11:12:42+10:00

The BSD600 Ascent A2 has a robotic positioner for the punch head and features both light targeting and automatic pattern punching allowing for ease of visualization and punching multiple spots from the same sample. The BSD600 Ascent M2 has a static punch head which requires the user to manually position the card for each individual punch.

How does the plate validation camera work?2021-10-15T11:12:20+10:00

The plate validation camera takes and can save images of each well before and after each punch, with timestamp, barcode and well location. A new feature allows the whole plate to be scanned at the end of the punch run.

What plate types are compatible with BSD instruments?2021-10-15T11:09:45+10:00

A wide range of plate types are compatible with BSD instrument. For specific compatibility with each instrument, please refer to the product brochure.

Can the BSD scan sample and plate barcodes?2021-10-15T11:09:35+10:00

Yes, all BSD models include a sample barcode reader as standard. All BSD models have the capability to scan plate barcodes which are then recorded in the output file, this is not always included as standard. Please refer to the product brochure for instrument model specifications.

Is it CE IVD or FDA approved?2021-10-15T11:09:25+10:00

The BSD punch instrument is not deemed as an IVD product and in laboratory equipment therefore not subject to IVD regulations. BSD instruments are UL approved and have CE, FCC and RCM EMC compliance certification. For specific model standards, please contact BSD for more information.

How does it handle static electricity?2021-10-15T11:09:06+10:00

The BSD humidification system reduces static by passing humid air through the punch head. Some BSD models also include an internal air ionizer system to further reduce static accumulation on the microplates or tubes.

What punch sizes are available?2021-10-15T11:08:57+10:00

Any size from 1.0 to 6.0 and 0.75 – 0.99 mm by special order. Customized models are available with punch sizes over 6.0mm. Ascent and Galaxy models have punch heads with two punch pins with sizes for any combination e.g., 1.2/1.2mm, 1.2/3.2mm, 4.7/6.0 mm.

How long does it take a BSD instrument to punch a 96-well plate?2021-10-15T11:08:48+10:00

Approximately 10 minutes for 1 punch and 1 cleaning per sample to fill a 96-well plate. For instruments with a plate validation camera and if enabled to record, an additional 4 minutes will be added.

What type of sample cards is the BSD instrument compatible with?2021-10-15T11:08:38+10:00

Any filter paper, plant leaf, hair or tissue less than 1.5mm thick. There is an insert depth limit of around 35mm. Thicker materials may be possible using the BSD Customization Service.

Can the BSD do a cleaning punch between samples, and if so how many?2021-10-15T11:08:06+10:00

Cleaning punching is programmable up to 20 cleaning punches.

Can I use a separate computer to operate the BSD instrument?2021-10-15T11:07:48+10:00

How long does the punch head last?2021-10-15T11:07:10+10:00

Typically, 5 years, given regular PM maintenance and appropriate punching material.

Can I arrange the punch sequence to fill vertically?2021-10-15T11:06:03+10:00

Yes, and the filling direction is specified for each plate so one can fill horizontally and one vertically for example. The Test Editor also allows the punch sequence to be edited for every well.
